This is cool. SG Curator, Olex is bringing art to grade 6, 7 & 8 students in the geographically remote community of Poplar Hill, Ontario. First Nation's Abe Scatch Memorial School and Olex skype on Thursday afternoons. Each 30 minute session is led by ASM teacher Phil Gebhert (a professional artist & friend of SG). This Northern Exposure web series provides students who would otherwise not have access to an arts organization the opportunity to get familiar with a gallery Curator, variety of artwork mediums and knowledge of a public art gallery. We're not sure who's having more fun, Olex or the students!
SG friends were on site May 3rd, 2012 for the unveiling of the Underground Gallery mural. Next time you're here for classes take a peak at the wall in the link. Amazing effort by artist instructors and the Underground Studio youth group.
